Windows 11 offers several ways to take screenshots. Here is every method, from the simplest keyboard shortcut to the full Snipping Tool. ## Method 1: Print Screen (Full Screen) Press the **Print Screen** key (sometimes labeled PrtScn, PrtSc, or Print Scr) on your keyboard. This copies the entire screen to your clipboard. Open any application (Word, email, Paint) and press **Ctrl + V** to paste it. On some keyboards, you may need to press **Fn + Print Screen** if the Print Screen key shares a function with another key. ## Method 2: Windows + Print Screen (Auto-Save) Press **Win + Print Screen**. Your screen will briefly dim. The screenshot is automatically saved as a PNG file in: ``` C:\Users\YourName\Pictures\Screenshots ``` This is the fastest way to capture and save a full-screen screenshot. ## Method 3: Alt + Print Screen (Active Window Only) Press **Alt + Print Screen**. This captures only the currently active window (not the entire screen) and copies it to the clipboard. Paste it into any application with Ctrl + V. ## Method 4: Snipping Tool (Flexible Selection) The Snipping Tool lets you capture a specific area, window, or the full screen. 1. Press **Win + Shift + S**. 2. The screen will dim and a toolbar appears at the top with four options: **Rectangular Snip**: Click and drag to select a rectangular area. **Freeform Snip**: Draw a freeform shape around what you want to capture. **Window Snip**: Click a window to capture just that window. **Full Screen Snip**: Captures the entire screen. 3. After snipping, the screenshot is copied to your clipboard and a notification appears. 4. Click the notification to open the Snipping Tool editor where you can annotate, crop, and save. ## Method 5: Snipping Tool App (Timer and Delay) 1. Search for **Snipping Tool** in the Start menu and open it. 2. Click the **clock icon** to set a delay (3, 5, or 10 seconds). This is useful for capturing menus or tooltips that disappear when you move the mouse. 3. Click **New** and capture your screenshot. 4. Edit and save from within the app. ## Method 6: Xbox Game Bar (Screen Recording) Press **Win + G** to open the Xbox Game Bar. Click the **camera icon** to take a screenshot or the **record button** to record video of your screen. Screenshots are saved to: ``` C:\Users\YourName\Videos\Captures ``` ## Tips for IT Support When reporting an issue to your IT help desk, include a screenshot of the error message. This helps the support team understand exactly what you are seeing without requiring a screen share or guessing. Use **Win + Shift + S** for the quickest way to capture a specific area and paste it into an email or support ticket.
